Hat Care Guide: Tips for looking after Brynel's Hats and Bethanifaith Headpieces
A brim should be stored upside down on its crown. It is preferable that hats are kept upside-down whilst it rests. If you store it on the brim, your hat will tend to flatten and change shape. You can also store a hat by hanging it on a peg or hook. However, hanging a hat on a peg or hook for long periods will change the shape. Felt hats should be stored with moth repellent lavender.
Brynel's brims
Always handle your hat by the brim. By doing this, you’ll keep the crown looking new. If you pinch the crown often enough the crown will crease and cause a crack, which cannot be repaired. Also by pinching the crown you will cause soiling that is difficult to remove. If you wish to prolong the life of your hat, handle it by the brim.
Keep your hat dry!
Never get your hats wet, however, if you do, do not use artificial heat. It is better to let it dry naturally. Using a hair dryer can change the shape or even shrink it. Place the hat on its crown to dry naturally.
Caring for Brynel's hats
Hat brushes can help to get off loose dirt and keeps the hat looking fresh. For Australian-made hats, brush counter clockwise. For American-made hats, brush clockwise. Cellophane tape can also help you keep your Brynel's looking good by being used to remove unwanted hairs.
Another useful tip is to use an art gum eraser first to remove spots, soil, smudges and other items.
Ivory white bar soap will take out most of anything, whilst Ivory Snow Flakes is good for washable hats.
Traveling with Brynel's
Once you arrive at your destination with your crushable hat, take the hat out of your case and reshape it as soon as you possibly can. Never store a crushable hat in a rolled position for a long period of time. If the hat has creased, you can steam them out.
